Our Story
Why we started with family-safe treatments first.
Rex Torres spent seven years as a lead technician for a regional commercial pest management company. He was good at the work, but he was increasingly uncomfortable with how residential jobs were handled — broad chemical applications in kitchens and bedrooms, homeowners not given re-entry instructions, pets left in treated areas.
When he started Shield in 2014, the first thing he did was build a treatment protocol guide that required written re-entry instructions for every job and prohibited indoor broadcast spraying in occupied spaces. That protocol is still in place today.
We’ve treated more than 500 Phoenix-area homes since then. The 30-day guarantee isn’t marketing — it’s a standard we hold ourselves to.

Licensed to Protect
AZ Certified Applicator License
Rex Torres holds a Certified Pesticide Applicator license (AZ #CA-44891) issued by the Arizona Department of Agriculture, required for all commercial pest management.
WDO Inspector Certification
Jay Reeves holds an Arizona Wood-Destroying Organism (WDO) inspector certification, required for pre-purchase termite inspections for real estate transactions.
EPA-Registered Products Only
We use only EPA-registered pest control products. No unlabeled concentrates, no grey-market imports, no products not approved for the application environment.

Owner, 18 Years Experience
Rex started in pest control at 22 and has been running Shield for 11 years. He holds a certified applicator's license from the Arizona Department of Agriculture and conducts all termite inspections personally.
Maria Kim
Senior Technician
Maria specializes in general pest control and rodent exclusion. She's the reason our exclusion work holds up — her attention to sealing secondary entry points other techs miss has cut our re-treatment rate significantly.
Jay Reeves
Inspector
Jay conducts pre-purchase termite inspections and initial assessments for new customers. He's WDO-licensed in Arizona and inspects 8–10 properties per week across the Phoenix metro.
